Hike at Highland Park, Manchester, Saturday, July 31 at 1 p.m.
Come explore the historic Case Brothers district and take a 3-mile hike to the summit of Case Mountain
in the Highland Park section of Manchester. We will see a waterfall, stone walls, carriage path, and Case mansions, as well
as forest and ponds. Wear sturdy shoes or sneakers and expect some steep climbs and bumpy terrain. The hike and commentary will take about two hours. Participants in this moderately strenuous hike will learn basic hiking
skills and, depending on the weather, view the Hartford skyline from the summit of Case Mountain. We will view property owned
by the Town of Manchester and by the Manchester Land Conservation Trust. Children and families are especially welcome. Singles
are also welcome. Hike
starts at the Spring Street trailhead: From Hartford, take I-84 eastbound to I-384, exit
4, right off exit ramp. Follow Spring Street down a curve and then down a steep hill, over a one-lane bridge. Parking along
one side of Spring Street, with a little parking at the trail head. Please phone if not
sure of starting point. Questions may be directed to hike leader Susan Barlow, 860-643-9776. Extreme weather cancels.

East Coast Greenway Hike (While this hike is not on Land Trust Property, we thought you might be intererested
in attending to learn about it.)
We'll explore the East Coast Greenway using a couple of options -- a one-and-a-half-mile
walk, with an additional three-miles to visit the Cheney Brothers historic district. Plan to come at 12:45 if you would like
to hear more about the Greenway, the kiosk, and its dedication to the late Chris Boehm. Everything starts at the kiosk in
Charter Oak Park. From the entrance to the park at the intersection of Charter Oak and Spruce Streets, go down the hill and
take a sharp right into the parking lot near the playground. The kiosk is just south of the parking lot, and the Greenway
is just beyond the kiosk. No dogs, please. Children, adults, families and singles are all welcome.

Special urban walk for the Land
Trust Alliance Rally held in Hartford – an easy and free lunchtime stroll Monday, October 4, starting at
noon
Meet at the Hartford Convention Center for
a free 1.4-mile-round-trip walk across the Founders Bridge to Riverpoint Parklet. This one-acre park formerly housed a tank
farm, but has been reclaimed for grassy open space. The Land Trust acquired the property in 2007. If you are a Rally participant,
please bring a blanket or towel to sit on if you want to eat lunch at the park, and we will get back to the Rally by 1:30.
Rain or shine (torrential downpours cancel), so please bring an umbrella. There are no restrooms along the way. The walk includes
commentary about the pedestrian bridge and the Riverpoint property. The Land Trust welcomes the Rally to our neck of the woods,
and salutes the good works of the many conservationists visiting Hartford in October. The public is also invited to participate
in this walk, and to meet Rally participants.
